IPTV Step 2: Set top box

The set top box arrived and was set up yesterday afternoon. Connection options available are Composite AV, S-Video, Component Video and HDMI, plus Composite Audio or S/PDIF Audio. Right now I'm still waiting for my Samsung 19-inch widescreen LCD to come so I can't do much since I won't use it with my legacy CRT TV, and I have to decide if there is a need to get HDMI cables or new speakers.

Other than the standard FTA channels from Mediacorp, also available are ETTV News Asia, ETTV YoYo, Mei Ah movies and Mediacorp HD Channel. A boring lineup it is, but SingTel has thrown in a lot of Video-On-Demand (VOD) movies and documentaries, which are all free during the trial period.

Time-shift is also available on the Motorola VP1208 set-top box, which is equipped with a 80GB hard disk. You can also record your shows as well. Interactive TV Guide which shows you the shows for the day allows you to schedule the shows you want to record, and you can also record the series, like the news every night.

IPTV Step 1: Update router

Set-top box has arrived, next up is an extra ethernet cable tomorrow. Maybe I can consider a new 19-inch widescreen LCD with DVI input to play with. =D

NPNT

My Nikon lens is taken away due to the autofocus motor not working. I wonder how long it will take during this festive period when no one is exactly working...... maybe I'll get it back after the new year?

For now, I will have to concentrate on getting my Tokyo trip details firmed up and give you many many NPNT reports.

No, I don't have a camera phone. =P

Today, my SingTel IPTV trial equipment will arrive, and I'll be back at the Maid Cafe for a second FR, ironically, without my camera. =(

Reports from the gala premiere of DN2

Let me begin my Gala Premiere adventure by saying that I hate my new shoes. I fell down twice (at least it's not at the event) today, once while I was going to the laundry, next after the event at Liang Court, because my new shoes are too new and slippery. Bleagh. Bleagh, bleagh, bleagh. =(

That is fine by all means, scratches aside, but the lens of my camera is spoilt! It cannot auto-focus anymore, and I could not zoom in as well, leaving me with only blur shots. The best I could do will look like photos taken from a handphone camera. Biggest flop of the year for this blog? =(

Well, at least I enjoyed myself there, with such great hospitality handed out to a last-minute guest like me.

Now I will have to report to Nikon to get things fixed first thing tomorrow morning, hopefully without additional cost and covered fully by warranty.

I have become so busy this December that I have to postpone or even cancel appointments. =X

Okay, back to the movie. It was great, but it may not have an ending that you'll like or expect, maybe? 'Cos..... you'll have to watch it yourself or else it'll really be an ultimate spoiler if I say out the reason.

By the way, you can find the plot of the movie in its exactness somewhere in Wikipedia. Oh, did I just mention some spoilers? =D

Sneak previews for Death Note 2: The Last Name is available this Friday for midnight shows

In other news, I'm going to Tokyo in March! Apple and his brother is coming with me! Yatta!

Pictures that I can salvage....

The crowd. 5 cinema halls were booked in total for the event.

The DJs for the night, Vernon A and Justin Ang.

Cosplay contest for the lead characters Light, "L" and Misa.

The winner, "L", on the right.

The runner-up, portraying herself as Misa, was also a popular candidate.

I'm going to watch Death Note 2: The Last Name!!!

Thanks to a last-minute effort and with the help of Encore Films, I got for myself a pass to the Gala Premiere of Death Note 2 tomorrow night.

I will be fielding reports, with photographs of course. Sorry if I could not bring anyone along, I know there are some who are dying to watch it (like me!). And I actually thought that there will only be a single gala premiere in Hong Kong, and I was a tad late to find out about this.

And I'm actually in the midst of arranging a backpacking trip to Tokyo next year. No details yet, as discussions are on-going. =)
