Offering cheap Japanese bento sets from $2.90, Sumo House, formerly known as Sumo Bento, started with a single outlet in Bedok in 2004 after their sole Sumo Bento outlet closed down in 2003. The original boss, who had previously handed over the brand name to his landlord, decided to start out again after the original Sumo Bento was no more.
Today, it has successfully made inroads into 3 heartlands at different parts of Singapore, while still offering the exact same items on its menu, together with some new dishes. Its outlets are always packed during meal times, and also are frequented by students on a budget during the lazy afternoons.
The boss is hoping to open a 4th outlet in one of the smaller neighbourhoods, preferably in the east.
