I was heading to Vivocity with no particular lunch in mind, but surfing EDMW on the way there gave me the perfect idea for my next foodie mission at 家香砂劳越古晋kolo面.

Kolo mee is a very famous dish in Kuching, and is what bak chor mee is to Singaporeans. Minced meat is served generously here, along with slices of char siew, with two wantons and 3 prawns in a soup.

But this is not your ordinary bak chor mee! While that is served with a base sauce of braised mushrooms, kolo mee comes dry at the bottom.

The noodles itself were not dry, however, but full of taste. In fact, the may get salty at times, but at least there were no bland spots. More importantly, there is no aftertaste at all, unlike most hawker food which uses MSG.

The minced meat is chewy, the vegetable tastes great, and the char siew is unlike the big, dry meat slices you often get elsewhere.

The soup is also just nice, not too bland nor salty, with slippery wanton skins. I would have wished for more meat packed in there though.

It certainly leaves me craving for more, and I will want to visit it again with my friends soon.
